Known for their loyalty and courage, the Akita Inus are highly protective of their masters and the people they are fond of. However, they could be aggressive toward other dogs of the same sex. The breed has a muscular build and a dense coat.
One of the most endearing examples of this breed is an Akita named Hachiko. For almost nine years, Hachiko waited at a train station for his master to return. A movie starring Richard Gere, “Hachi: A Dog's Tale” (2009), was based on Hachiko’s story. Russian President Vladimir Putin also owns an Akita named Yume.
